A duplex fitting is a delux lampshade fitting and comes with a shade carrier. 

Advantages of the duplex fitting is that on larger shades they are easier to remove for cleaning and to replace the bulb. Shade carriers come in different heights which means that the height of the shade from the lamp holder can be altered.
